Questions! =)

Post  twoninesix on Mon Sep 15, 2008 11:14 am

Salaam mummies, just wanted to ask a few questions.

1. I've heard a lot of mums who take Fenugreek to increase their supply, but when is the best time to start taking it?

2. How do you store your EBMs? Right now I'm using Medela's Pump n Save bags (got a box of them for free when I bought my PISA) but I'm not sure if these bags ada bejual in Brunei. I know they sell similar bags in Triple Star and Mothercare though. Do normal ziploc freezer bags work for storing EBM?

Thanks! Very Happy

Salaam twoninesix!

I alternately use ziplock freezer bags (apparently its bpa-free, if you're concern of that) or playtex liners. The former you can buy at any supermarkets, whilst playtex liners I buy them either in KL or Singapore from The First Few Years- they have 4oz and 8oz ones. I use 8oz ones as I like to store my EBMs in packets of 4ozs.

I prefer the ziplock freezer bags though as it is ziplock-ed! Hehe. So less chances of spilling, it is also relatively cheper than Medela or the first year ones (from TS) too. Of course, it is easier to get than those Playtex ones. Hehe.

On fenugreek, I started taking them when my baby was 2 months, I think. I took them twice a day. Once after breakfast and once after dinner. I stopped for awhile when my baby started on solids but am now taking it once a day (after sahur) to maintain my supply during Ramadhan.

Hope that helps! Smile

I'm A Breastfeeding mummy♥♥

Post  Mummyfin on Fri Nov 21, 2008 12:12 pm

Salam everyone,

I'm 21 years old. Married and have 3 kids. Currently I'm still studying at Sekolah Vokasional Sultan Bolkiah Seria. My first daughter will be coming 5 years in January 2009, 2nd is boy will be coming 4 years old this 30th December, while the youngest one is 1year 4 months. All my kids were on exclusive breastfeeding.

My 1st daughter was on breastfeeding until she's 8months, I have to stop the breastfeeding because I was pregnant for my second baby, also the nurse advice me to stop breastfeeding for me and my baby's own good. As I remembered, at that time, in 2004, exclusive breastfeeding were not really supported. I gave birth on my 2nd baby in December 2004, exclusive breastfeeding were strictly advisable. I don't have any problems in breastfeeding, alhamdulillah. It is quiet easy for me, since my in-law family and my husband support me to continue exclusive breastfeeding. My 1st daughter also, I continue giving her breastmilk thru a bottle.

My 2nd baby stop exclusive breastfeeding when he's 1 year plus. In november 2006, I was pregnant for my 3rd baby. This time I really want to continue breastfeeding until she's maybe 3 years old. Alhamdulillah once again, my 3rd baby still continue breastfeeding until now. And my breastmilk is still enough for her. I hope I can continue breastfeeding until she's 3-4 years old. Because of this breastfeeding, all my kids were so close with me. And it really makes me proud to be a part of a breastfeeding mother.

some tips on how to keep your breastmilk enough for your baby.

1. Drink a lot of water/ juice in between breastfeeding.
2. Take a soup on each part of your meal.
3. Relax and enjoy your daily routine.

My daily intake:
1. Fenugreek ( U can get it in a capsule form from Naturefarm @ the mall) but i prefer the Green Life brand (Guardian, S'pore)
2. Habatu Sauda (Available at Mestari jaya)
3. Buah kurma ( banyak kan makan kurma masa puasa ni, insyaAllah! It will increase ur milk supply)
4. Water chestnut (U can get it from the fruit stall di Athirah, if ke sana baru makan ni....hehe)
5. Dried longan ( u boiled it with rock sugar)
6. Soya bean
7. Oats and horlicks ( recommended to mix it together but sometimes i only drink oats for breakfast)
8. Milo (Dulu yes, but now not anymore coz i have breakouts if i drink too much of milo)
9. Drink plain water ( i Normally drink 2 big bottles of sehat)
10. Pil ASI-air susu ibu (if im desprate banar, i will take this. Untuk melancarkan air susu, u can get it from athirah as well)

Besides, eating well balanced diet, i also eat whenever i feel hungry. Hehe eat in a small amount. Dont ever miss breakfast, lunch and dinner because it really affect ur milk supply. Pump frequently. Be happy, jangan stress-stress. Lastly will be doa, minta dipercukupkan air susu tani sampai 2 tahun. Amin...!!

Thanks for idola's info...

Post  BREASTFEEDING MOM on Wed Jan 28, 2009 11:48 pm

ASKUM TO ALL..
Being a first time mom is a wonderful experience, as well as giving breast milk to my daughter. Alhamdullilah, I don't have problem mbagi first milk to my daughter d hospital walaupun both of us new to it. I enjoyed breastfed my baby. Now she's turn 6 months this 8th Feb 2009 and I'm still breastfed her. I'm a working mother too but I don't have difficulties to breastfed her. At work, I able to express my breast milk twice to top up my stock... Until now I still have the stock enough for her while I'm working. Breast milk is the BEST....

Salam smurffystars Smile,

Juz wanna share my experience..I also has the same question when i was start expressing at ofis when coming back to work. Usually when i pump at ofis, i usually store it in ziplock bag n put it in a 'non see-through' bag/plastic so that no one knows what's inside it..hehehe..store ur EBM in a the cooling part of the fridge.

Hope it helps Smile..
